Complete treatment usually requires 6 to 12 sessions, normally scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart. However, at NUYU, we’ve also had cases where a treatment only required 4 sessions, while others required 15. During each session, a certain quantity of ink is broken up and the body flushes out the smallest fragments in the following weeks. As such, the tattoo fades with time.
The number of sessions and the time between each session will depend on several factors—which part of the body the tattoo is on, skin type and skin colour, colours and types of ink used, how deep the ink goes into the skin, the age of the tattoo and the overall health of the client.
While sessions can be uncomfortable, most clients find it’s a minor inconvenience to achieve the end result. After each treatment, your skin will be red and feel sun-burnt. Blistering may occur and a crust may form over the treated area, eventually disappearing in the weeks following the treatment. The probability of these side effects occurring vary from person to person. It’s therefore important to follow the post-treatment care instructions provided by our technicians, who will also ensure regular follow-ups throughout your entire tattoo removal treatment.

How Tattoo Removal Treatment works?
Today, all North American tattoo removal professionals clearly agree that the use of a laser is the best and most effective way to remove tattoos. Apart from covering up an existing tattoo with another, other tattoo removal techniques, such as dermabrasion, skin excision and skin grafts, are very complicated and painful. Topical creams and other solutions, which are applied to the skin surface or through subcutaneous injection, are often ineffective or not very effective, and can even be dangerous.
The YAG neodymium-doped laser is one of the fastest and most effective machines to remove tattoo ink. The beam is directed onto the tattoo and the pulsed light penetrates the skin’s surface (epidermis) to the inner layer (the dermis). The tattoo’s ink absorbs the energy emitted by the light of the laser and heats up, allowing its fragmentation into minuscule particles.
Post-treatment, the lymphatic system identifies the ink particles as foreign bodies and flushes them from the body. After each treatment, more particles are eliminated and the tattoo fades, eventually disappearing in most cases.
