Laser Tattoo Removal: how long to see results?

One of the first questions that come again and again when people are enquiring about laser tattoo removal, is: how long does it take?

Complete tattoo removal usually requires 6 to 12 laser sessions, normally scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart. You start seeing some positive results from 3 sessions on. If you want to make a try with one session just to see, save your money: you won’t see anything positive before this!

However, there are also cases where a treatment only required 4 sessions, while others required 15. As such, the tattoo fades with time. The number of sessions and the time between each session will depend on several factors—which part of the body the tattoo is on, skin type and skin color, colors and types of ink used, how deep the ink goes into the skin, the age of the tattoo and the overall health of the client.

So let’s do the math: it can take as low as 8 months, to as long as 2 years and a half, often between 1 year and 2 years. These are numbers considering you are serious and do your sessions on time.

Some clients ask us to increase the laser power, so they may have quicker results. Others tell us they are scared of white spots and scars, yet want to have quick results… Let’s be realistic here: it takes the time it takes. The process is progressive, and the more you go along the treatment, the more visible the results. Initially, the laser technician will start with a low laser power. Then, she will increase the power along the following sessions and according to your skin reaction. As such, she mitigates the risks of scarring, white spots, discomfort and other side effects. If you increase the power whereas your skin does not respond properly to the treatment, you also increase side effect risks… which you and us don’t want.

The quicker the results without any side effect, the happier you are, the happier we are too!
